UAL Awarding Body: Enabling transformative pre-degree education and supporting progression to Higher Education and UAL

Abstract

To further develop UAL-wide understanding of UAL Awarding Body and our role in pre-degree creative education, including how we support 16-19 years olds to progress to higher education and to consider opportunities for collaboration across UAL to increase impact and support lifelong learning.

Session and activities

Summary of content: 

  • Introduction to UAL Awarding Body: Why we exist, what we do and how we do it – we are UAL 
  • Values, ethos and approach: FAD as first cause, Pedagogy, assessment, community of practice (to include TIC, Origins and CPD) 
  • Political and environmental context: Ofqual and regulations, DfE and policy  
  • Process: Qualification design, learning outcomes and assessment criteria, teaching,  learning and assessment, moderation and standardisation, results 
  • Reach: Number of centres, qualifications and students across the country, students over time (circa 600,000 tbc) 
  • Impact: Access and inclusion, cohort demographics, FE sector, PRUs and SEND 
  • Progression: Number of students that currently progress to UAL and other HEIs 

 

  • Call to Action 1: How can we work together to enable students from more diverse backgrounds to access undergraduate provision at UAL? 
  • Call to Action 2: How can we work together to support pre-degree educators to better prepare students for undergraduate provision at UAL to improve retention and reduce attainment gaps? 
  • Call to Action 3: How can we work together to support pre-degree educators – in primary, secondary and further education –  to improve attainment in pre-degree creative education?
