RAS Projects: Culture and Creativity

  • Kate Hatton

Brief description of session and activities

In the Autumn of 2010, the concepts ‘culture’ and ‘creativity’ were built into the RAS project. This inclusion updated and made visible recent research into art and design pedagogy, bringing with it applications towards specialist art and design research.

This session, delivered with opportunities for discussion, problematises the concepts ‘culture’ and ‘creativity’ in terms of their location within the HE institution, examining differing understandings of such routinely used terms. It will look at the derivation of such terms, their implementation, asking questions around the ownership of knowledge, considering the need for an awareness of ‘real’ issues around culture and creativity and finally reflects upon how staff research can make more visible the subjectivities around the student experience.
