Teaching Award: Work It Out Wednesday

Brief description of session and activities

“Work It Out Wednesday” (WOW) is a student to student speed networking event created and branded by Karen Savage with the support of Pauline Franckel , Dean School of Media and Communication, Kelly Dearsly Programme Director Fashion Communication, and School of Media and Communication staff. WOW runs in the in the 2nd week of each term on a Wednesday.

“Wow” enables and empowers students to practice how to network within the school and creates a community identity at the Lime Grove Site. Through networking and community the student becomes their own agent of their development as a collaborator, practitioner and community member.

The “Wow” event’s purpose has evolved from an initial idea to facilitate work related networking into a real sense of community that could not have been imagined at the outset. Attendance from school staff builds the community spirit and provides positive role model for students to witness staff together in informal environments.
