Sponsored student projects in 2014
Brief description of session and activities
Two lightning talks:
Wayfinding sponsored student project
Showcase how Wayfinding project worked and the structure that was used for students from BA Graphic and Media Design who took part. This project was a tight brief, working with demanding clients from Southwark Council, Lend Lease, Delauncey and local community groups. Students had to develop their ideas based on feedback, and then present them to the stakeholders.
Paperchase sponsored student project
This project was different to Wayfinding as the client gave a much broader brief and a larger number of students initially took part. I’ll show part of the video and explain the structure of this project. Working with businesses (and asking them for funding in return) can be seen as a risk, but these projects show that it can be done successfully. My role is to support academics with these projects, and take away some of that risk. Sponsored student projects also give courses access to funding that can be spent in innovative ways, so if a lack of funding is a subject elsewhere in the day then these talks could offer a solution.
Will students be involved in the session? If so how?
No
What will participants take away from the session?
Examples of how LCC courses have worked with businesses in 2014, which I hope will stimulate ideas for how more projects could run in 2015
