Encouraging participation: impact of physical and configured environments on teaching and learning

  • Hannah Breslin: Student Employability Practitioner, Careers and Employability.
  • Laura North: Web and Digital Communications Manager, Careers and Employability.

This session will explore how physical and configured environments can affect learning and teaching. We will compare informal and formal learning spaces, combined with different facilitation techniques. The session will focus on two main lines of enquiry:

  1. How does the teaching environment impact learning?
  2. How can we, as teachers, best facilitate learning in a range of environments?

Session participants will experience and discuss the impact of informal and formal teaching environments. They will be encouraged to explore how this might relate to their own teaching and feedback about their own experiences.
