Whose space is it anyway? Improvisational use of learning spaces
Largely based on the concept of smooth and striated space (Deleuze and Guattari, 1988), this initiative looks at the tension between fluidity and structure within physical, virtual and blended learning spaces.
Using an International classroom a nomadic space is created that is negotiated and dependent on the learning outcomes of a particular session. This has brought up issues of ownership, personalisation, cultural capital and comfort within a physical space, which is juxtaposed against an anonymous virtual makerspace that encourages interactivity with the session.
The outcome seems to have led to an enhanced student awareness of space and their place within it.
