Learning through Exhibition Co-curation and Display

  • Dr Nicky Ryan: Programme Director Spatial Communication and Contextual & Theoretical Studies, LCC.

This lightning talk argues for the value of student participation in curating the spaces of exhibition and display in Higher Education institutions. Curation is explored as a key transferable skill and core competency that has cross-sector relevance and a multiplicity of applications. In rethinking the architecture of university buildings the provision of spatial opportunities for participatory display practices which showcase student research and learning processes is critical. These interstitial spaces animated by student-led exhibitions, performances and events can function as a platform for collaborations, conversations, interactions and connections and provide a crucial link to wider audiences and the public realm.
