Abstract

I would like to introduce my research ‘A Different Hue Of Blue’. My research exposes the realities of embedding diversity and inclusivity within the curriculum from the perspective of an educator of colour. My contribution for this lightening talk will demonstrate what happens when the educator responds to challenges that arise when delivering the curriculum by creating interventions as opportunities to engage with and include diversity in real time. It will reveal how I inspire a shift from apathy to curiosity in terms of the students’ creative process to the impact this has on their learning and final outcome.

Taking part in the lightening talk will give me the opportunity to highlight my most recent Case Study - A ride to the Cenotaph with Skinheads and Mods as a double minority. This intervention encouraged a lively discussion with my students, tackled multiple assumptions, prejudices and fears. More importantly it provoked a sense of curiosity for ‘other’ diverse perspectives and approaches.
