Being "superficially superhuman"? And other stories...
Abstract
Delving into the life, health and wellbeing of an early career academic (who’s not very good at sitting still). This lightning talk will reflect upon a unique journey from doctoral researcher to early career academic in the UK, China and Australia (2009-2019). More specifically, the impact of a chronic and invisible illness developed mid-way through PhD studies on researcher identity, framed by institutional response, peer support systems and structures of ableism in academia (with a few comedic anecdotes for good measure).
