Professionalism explored: fashioning an identity in future higher education



The changing face of educational professionalism in Higher Education can be defined as the three ‘C’s. The closed-shop of the exclusionary past, the control of the present system, and the compassionate professionalism desired for the future. Although the current model is more inclusive, the power wielded and lack of autonomy afforded by neoliberalist government control has devalued the teaching profession and needs troubling for fitness. The combined forces of the climate crisis, globalisation, and technological advancement demand a new direction and a new kind of professionalism, which is tuned to humanity and capable of emotional response.
