Workshopping the Workshop: Exploring Socio-material Relations in Workshop Practice
Within the art school context, the 'workshop' is a common mode of studio-based learning and teaching. Alongside the 'crit', or critique, it co-exists with more traditional modes such as the tutorial, the seminar and the lecture, and often takes place in a studio setting. What are people, objects, environments and atmospheres doing and making together in these learning spaces? What are the affective, material and social practices at play in everyday workshop knowledge production? Contextualised in the facilitator's doctoral study of art school workshop practice at UAL, this interactive workshop invites participation through co-production of workshop stories.
