Localities - Southall to Brick Lane - South-Asian Diaspora Narratives
This session focuses on two London localities - Southall and Brick Lane. These areas were explored through the lens of two British South-Asian artists and how locality has inspired their artistic practice.
We wish to discuss how places are mapped by artists both personally and historically, internally and physically, and culturally with others for whom those spaces are new and unchartered.
We seek to investigate what British South-Asian culture means today, particularly for communities that engage with these localities. The project has emerged out of discussions on Anti-Racism within the BA Painting Course at Camberwell College of Arts.
