‘Lurkers’ in the Fashion Business School; A study of learning participation in Online Classrooms.
This session will look at learning in the online classroom. Participants are known as ‘posters’ and those who remain silent, ‘lurkers’. My research began as a portfolio of how I taught online focusing on ‘lurkers’ to understand how they learn.
The interpretivist methodology was deliberate to give qualitative insight to balance the abundance of existing quantitative data. This is often biased presenting a negative view of those who don’t participate or only participate infrequently.
This research was conducted to aid revalidation of a course and to develop my own practice teaching and developing curriculum on hybrid courses in the future.
