{"id":2944,"date":"2026-05-11T09:58:28","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T08:58:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/educationconference.arts.ac.uk\/festival2026\/blog\/proposal\/equivalent-value-reassessing-the-academic-essay\/"},"modified":"2026-06-08T16:23:37","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T15:23:37","slug":"equivalent-value-reassessing-the-academic-essay","status":"publish","type":"proposal","link":"https:\/\/educationconference.arts.ac.uk\/festival2026\/blog\/proposal\/equivalent-value-reassessing-the-academic-essay\/","title":{"rendered":"Equivalent value: Reassessing the academic essay\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My paper charts the evolution of alternative, inclusive and authentic methods of assessment by the Cultural and Historical department in the London College of Fashion\u2019s School of Media and Communication. <\/p>\n<p>Initially outlining the introduction of an optional Visual Essay across the 2021\/22 Academic Year, it then considers the new forms of written assessment tasks and teaching methods that emerged out of this process.  <\/p>\n<p>Drawing on the approaches of Rintoul (2016), Hoon (2018), Heng (2020) and Camfield (2025) it follows a process of identification, application and reflection.
