From craft-based excellence to innovation in performance making, teaching and research.

The study of performance at LCF consisted of a single undergraduate provision specialised excellent making for the workplace. An AHRC-funded research into the undetected agency of designers' work; interdisciplinary movement methodologies as well as Erasmus-funded exchanges have created an environment in which costume became both site and enabler of performance. Such entangled development of research and teaching now underpins an internationally and influential MA Course and the study of the subject at PhD level. In this presentation I identify processes that have permitted such growth, also considering how both students and the profession have benefitted from radical transformation.
