Situating language learning in the art & design studio
Responding to a specific set of challenges on the CSM Foundation programme, a teaching intervention was implemented in which a language tutor visits art and design studios to teach language in situ. This two-year collaboration between the Language Centre and the Foundation academic team at CSM has led to significant benefits for student engagement and achievement. This workshop outlines the development of this collaborative project, which has since led to an emerging professional development model that focuses on differentiated activities for large, mixed ability classes. Our collaborative model for planning, curriculum development and delivery could offer benefits for other courses.
