Media is a key element of any online or blended learning experience, so UALO has drafted a manifesto outlining the basics of what makes for good audiovisual media in online and blended creative arts education. This workshop offers a chance for participants to review and critique the statements which comprise the manifesto and reflect on their use of audiovisual media in their teaching and learning.
The proposed workshop will start with a brief discussion in small groups for participants to describe what ‘good’ looks like in audio/video media for online education. The facilitators will then discuss the founding principles for teaching and learning at UALO, before introducing the draft media manifesto statements and a 2-minute video clip of UALO-produced media which evidences the manifesto in practice.
Each statement will be added to a sheet of butcher’s paper and distributed around the room. Participants will be invited to add responses to a series of prompts on the paper, organised to elicit to what they like, don’t like and would improve about that statement. Participants will then move between the statements discussing each manifesto principle and adding ideas/comments to the manifesto statements, to test and critiquing these ideas. At the same time we invite participants to challenge their beliefs around of audiovisual media usage in Creative Arts education. The session will end with a group discussion with around the themes emerging from each statement and next steps.
Note that we can invite online attendees to participate in the session using the chat function, displaying the manifesto principles on screen and inviting them to contribute comments which the facilitators can then add to the papers.
