Developing a Professional Futures Unit, with students as co-creators

conversation

Abstract

We will outline how students and academics have co-created a unit which responds to a drive across the sector for improved graduate outcomes, by utilising student feedback and referencing the UAL guiding principal “To give our students the education they need to flourish in a changing world”.

Session and activities

This session will discuss the approach taken to develop and validate the unit. The discussion will bring together colleagues working within the academic strategy team, academic support and business and innovation (CCW). The unit will ensure that all students receive a baseline of meaningful employability, and enterprise content The discussion will unpack the importance of student co-creation providing a case study, ‘why’ by utilising data and student feedback, ‘how’ by discussing the methodology and approach to validation, and ‘when’. This high impact intervention will be delivered to 3rd year undergraduate students, (approximately 1400 students across Camberwell , Chelsea and Wimbledon) across the 3 colleges and 3 schools (Fine Art, Design, and performance), this piece of work presented an academic challenge as a one size fits all approach is very difficult to achieve with so many considerations.
