Abstract

“En Plein Air” transports learning from the classroom to nature, enhancing participants’ observational and creative skills through art. This approach not only supports climate action but also promotes social justice by blending experiential learning with environmental awareness, revealing hidden social dynamics and encouraging reflection on societal roles.

The ‘En Plein Air’ Taster Workshop: The session offers a unique, condensed exploration of nature through art designed specifically for university academics. It emphasises environmental awareness and social justice through hands-on, creative activities outside the conventional classroom. Activities Include: • Introduction: A brief overview of the ‘En Plein Air’ method, highlighting its significance in contemporary education. • Guided Observational Drawing: Participants engage in an outdoor drawing session that fosters a deeper appreciation of the environment and personal connection through artistic expression. Post-Activity Reflection and Discussion: • Reflection Session: Participants reflect on their drawing experience, discussing observations, emotions, and insights on integrating such experiential methods into their teaching. • Group Discussion: This facilitated dialogue explores the potential impact of incorporating social justice and environmental awareness into academic curricula.
