The Uses of Anger: Audre Lorde 1981: A conversation

conversation

Abstract

This is an opportunity to spend some time to reflect on the words of Audre Lorde which were written in 1981 as a Keynote address at City of New York around the uses of anger. It remains today, as much of her work does, still relevant. It discusses racism and how black women respond to racism with anger. Lorde discusses a variety of micro-aggressions which she had experienced in her academic life and also in her personal life. As two academics who work within the field of racial equity and justice at UAL it provides some reflections on how this work continues to be powerful within our own work.

Session and activities

The session will consist of a conversation between Carole and myself and will be delivered as a flipped session. We are expecting staff to have read the short piece (4 pages) and come with questions and reflections on how it relates to our own practice and our own contexts.
